Performance Analysis of Basalt Fibre Reinforced Concrete Short Column Under Compression
摘要
This study highlights the performance analysis of short columns reinforced with chopped basalt fibre subjected to compressive loading. Twelve short column and sixteen cube specimens were cast using M40 grade concrete designed using IS codal recommendations, with varying dosage of 0, 0.5, 1% basalt fibre by weight of binder. Six specimens were circular in shape of diameter 100 mm and height 450 mm whereas the other six were square with a size of 140 mm × 140 mm × 500 mm with varied percentage of basalt fibre in sets of two. The focus of the study includes the crack pattern of samples under axial compression, effect of varying dosage of basalt fibres on the peak loading of specimens and the shape effect of specimens on the peak load capacity of specimens. Analysis of results forecasts the effectiveness of basalt fibres in binding the concrete improving its peak capacity. It is also evident that circular specimens are able to take more load compared to square samples. The results of non-destructive testing confirmed the overall quality of concrete. The estimation of design peak load of bare square and circular specimens predicted using IS codal recommendations were in line with the experimental results.
