摘要

This case study elaborates on how the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) facilitate sustainable development of the aquaculture industry through its community engagement. This study identifies five major outcomes derived from the performance evaluation: (1) eco-friendly technology and concepts improve aquaculture operational practices; (2) transformation of fishery by-products into local-featured products based on circular economy concepts and university expertise; (3) online and offline shops as the cornerstones of habitat direct selling mode; (4) establishment of experiential tourism based on fishing village culture and fish-based diet education; (5) construct international collaborations with universities from Japan, local small-scale fishers, and green energy enterprises. The outcomes of this study could help the local government, policymakers, community stakeholders, and industry experts gain insights into the overall indicators that underpin sustainable fishing village development.
