Enhancing Strawberry Production in Different Systems: The Role of Nutrient Solutions and Biofertilizers

Hydroponics emerges as a sustainable solution, offering precise nutrient management that enhances both growth and fruit quality. This chapter explores the impact of various nutrient solutions and biofertilizers on the growth and fruit yield of strawberries cultivated in soil and soilless systems. It highlights the potential of organic amendments to improve soil health and boost crop yields. Nutrient management and biofertilizers play a vital role in enhancing strawberry growth, yield, and fruit quality while promoting sustainable farming practices. Balanced fertilization with essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) supports vegetative growth, root development, flowering, and fruit quality, while micronutrients like boron (B) and zinc (Zn) aid enzyme activities and physiological processes. Biofertilizers, including nitrogen-fixing bacteria (Rhizobium, Azotobacter), phosphate- and potassium-solubilizing microorganisms (Bacillus, Pseudomonas), mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus), and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), improve nutrient availability, stimulate growth through phytohormone production, enhance stress tolerance, and protect against pathogens. Findings indicate that optimal combinations of nutrient solutions and biofertilizers significantly enhance growth parameters and fruit quality. This work provides valuable insights for growers seeking environmentally friendly and economically viable practices in fruit cultivation.
