Ecological Restoration of Grasslands in Saurashtra
摘要
Grasslands are essential ecosystems with less than 10% tree and shrub cover, ranging from temperate to tropical regions. They support diverse species, provide water security, and support biodiversity. Saurashtra’s grasslands, once vibrant, are being degraded due to overgrazing, agricultural expansion, and climate change. These activities cause degradation, habitat loss, and increased carbon release, contributing to climate change and loss of biodiversity. Urbanization and resource extraction fragment grasslands, making it difficult for wildlife to access resources. To mitigate these impacts, efforts are needed to restore grasslands in Saurashtra through a holistic approach to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of these ecosystems. This article provides a framework for ecorestoration, focusing on ecological principles, restoration techniques, community engagement, and policy recommendations.
