Exposure-Response Relationship Between Prolonged Static Load and Low Back Musculoskeletal Disorders in College Students

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between prolonged static postural load and low back musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Methodology: A case-control study was conducted on 254 medical students. Data on demographics, occupation, and musculoskeletal symptoms were collected through self-administered questionnaires. Posture load was assessed using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) tool. Logistic re-gression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis were used to assess the exposure-response relationship between posture load and low back MSDs. Results: The RULA scores indicated a higher posture load in the case group compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed a positive correlation between RULA scores and the occurrence of low back MSDs. The RCS analysis revealed a linear exposure-response relationship be-tween posture load and low back MSDs. Conclusion: This study found a positive association between static postural load and low back MSDs in college students. The relationship followed a linear exposure-response pattern, with increasing risk as posture load increased. Stratified analysis showed differences in the association based on gender and job demands.
