Promotion of Gender Equality in a Brazilian University
摘要
Promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment is crucial for a more just society, reflecting the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5. This is a descriptive report of a program implemented at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), Brazil. The “Sou Mulher UFMS” Program promotes specific and comprehensive actions across three strategic axes: 1) Female admission, retention, and success; 2) Encouragement of female teaching, research, extension, entrepreneurship, and innovation; and 3) Creating a welcoming environment for women. The program’s results include an increase in female representation in leadership positions, the implementation of actions to ensure equal opportunities, the promotion of activities to foster female entrepreneurship, and the implementation of a policy for the prevention and handling of sexual and moral harassment in the workplace. These initiatives aim to promote an inclusive and diverse environment at the university, combating gender inequality and providing support and safety for women.
