The current environmental emergency is prompting companies to make the transition to a circular economy, requiring a complete overhaul of their current manufacturing systems to make them more capable of meeting the challenges of circularity. In a context of uncertainty and high demand for human labour to perform complex tasks with a lot of variabilities, the training of operators is a crucial factor in ensuring the performance of those production systems, as well as protecting the health of operators. In this context, a company refurbishing electronic materials is questioning its training process to allow operators to be more quickly operational at their workstations with complex tasks specific to circular manufacturing systems. The increase in skills, as well as the link between health and skills, led to an ergonomic analysis being carried out within this company. A multidisciplinary team in the humanities and social sciences and engineering has made it possible to study the situation of skills development. This intervention uses the development of a digital simulation linking the operational performance of a circular production system to the operator’s health to evaluate different organizational scenarios. Simultaneously, these scenarios are tested in a pilot situation to adjust the company’s recommendations. A question also arose on the conduct of multidisciplinary research projects, and on the application of tools from each discipline to respond to the company’s problems.
