This study aimed to establish the trends of accidents and fatalities in Hong Kong and gain insights into the current status of construction safety research conducted in Hong Kong to understand why accident rates have not decreased. The labor department’s database was used to examine the trends of accidents and fatalities from 2011 to 2022 and was subjected to descriptive analysis. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to gain insights into the present research focusing on construction safety in Hong Kong. The findings indicated specific gaps in the existing research studies. It was found that slips, trips, or falls on the same level, stuck-by objects, and falls from height (FFH) account for a larger number of accidents and fatalities in the Hong Kong construction industry. Nevertheless, the efforts made by the researchers to tackle these specific accident types were limited. This study has provided future directions and recommendations to address the identified accident types in various ways that could enhance safety in Hong Kong’s construction industry.
