Community Engagement and Participatory Technology Design in Rural Karnataka: A Case for Tribal Development

Tribal communities in India face various kinds of hardships, and some struggle to satisfy their basic needs. Technology can be leveraged to address their challenges. This study presents the community engagement and problem-solving strategies implemented in Bhadrapura, a rural tribal community in Karnataka, India. Through various participatory methods, the study explores the village's challenges, infrastructure, economic activities, and social dynamics. The paper discusses adaptive strategies the community could use and proposes sustainable technological interventions to enhance living conditions in the village. To address the challenge of solid waste accumulation and water stagnation, a drainage pusher system operated by solar-powered smart control system is proposed.
