With the introduction of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Indian higher education scenario is likely to undergo a significant change. ABC will encourage flexibility, interdisciplinarity, and learner orientation by facilitating student transfer credits from one institution to another. It promotes personalized learning, strengthens the bond between skill-building education and conventional curricula, and lays the groundwork for lifelong learning. However, infrastructure deficits, operational tensions, digital bifurcations, and huge faculty un-readiness continue to prevent its adoption. AI, blockchain, IoT, etc., can help it work better, while its success is facilitated through sound policy frameworks and capacity-building measures. By offering a broader portfolio of learning opportunities, ABC can also help close the employability gap and democratize education. This paper elaborates on the potential pitfalls of ABC along with an outline of the potential ideas for its sound implementation in the Indian context.

摘要
