Inspired by the notion that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” this study proposed an integrative system for preventive early detection of stroke and dementia for patients at risk of these conditions. The system monitors the user’s facial expressions and voice for long periods of time to establish a baseline, and in addition, it allows for self-diagnosis and self-checks by the user on a daily basis. The collected data can be sent wirelessly to a predetermined phone to notify the patient’s family or caregivers of patient status and for record keeping. Accordingly, the system facilitates detection of disease, caregiving, and self-health management. Upon detection of anomalies in facial expressions or speech, the system immediately notifies the patient’s family or caregivers of the need for a medical check to assess the patient’s risk of having had a stroke or a manifestation of some other diseases. With these features, the system is expected to elevate the quality of life of patients who are at risk of stroke or dementia, improve the quality of medical care, and promote minimal use and maximal utilization efficiency of medical resources.

摘要
