Linking Data Meaningfully
摘要
We define what linked data is within the context of an organization, and how to use Entity/Relationship (E/R) Profiling to access and link data efficiently. We showcase the process of discovering meaningful keys and foreign keys on a publicly available Hockey database. Despite having curated the database and its schema for decades, our E/R Profiler finds new entity and referential integrity constraints that provide data access and link the data in more meaningful ways. We also find violations of referential integrity arising from new foreign keys that have never been specified before we discovered them with our profiler. The study represents how challenges of accessing and linking data in real-world settings can be overcome.
