The evolving realms of smart agriculture and smart cities are gaining global prominence as strategic solutions to the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and the need for food security. Historically, agriculture has been an intrinsic component of urban environments, but it is only in recent times that urban agriculture has been acknowledged in global policy frameworks. In an increasingly urbanized world, the integration of agriculture into cityscapes becomes imperative. However, the scarcity of essential resources such as land, water, and energy in urban settings presents significant challenges. Moreover, urban agriculture could potentially exacerbate pollution and strain the already limited urban resources and infrastructure. Therefore, there is a pressing need for intelligent and sustainable agricultural practices within urban areas, particularly in smart cities where resource management and operations are optimized for efficiency. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of smart agricultural practices in various cities, exploring how smart cities are integrating smart agriculture to bolster their blue-green infrastructure.
