Design and Construction of Multi-tiered Gabion Fascia RS Wall for Cut Slope Stabilization of Open Cast Chromium Mine, Kaliapani, Odisha—A Case Study
摘要
The chromium mine authority needed a solution to protect the Haul Road from Sliding and parallelly facilitate chromium extraction further by opting for steeper profile at an open cast chromium mine, Kaliapani, Odisha. The objective of the proposed work was to prepare a steeper stable slope/wall to stabilize the upper portion of the chromium band. As a solution of the mentioned need, Gabion Fascia RS wall was proposed in multiple tiers to retain the open cuts. While designing, additional live load is taken into consideration for smooth operation of haul road. Since the heterogeneous mine dump extract was used as fill material and availability of cohesionless backfill was a constraint, a specially designed integrated network of drainage was provided to ensure drainability and the dissipation of pore water pressure developed in fill material for this high rainfall zone project. Soil Reinforcement material High Strength PET geogrid was adopted. Fascia is designed with GI + PVC coated Gabions. For drainage network Geo-composite drain and non-woven geotextile wrapped cuspated core rigid strip drain elements are used. The structure is designed for all the cases of external and internal stability. The execution work is completed as per the design recommendation and performance is being monitored.
