Equivalent Approach for the Prediction of Consistency of Cohesive Sub-soil Using DMT Test
摘要
In the last few years, our country India has witnessed rapid growth in urbanization. As a result, an inclination towards the use of in situ testing for direct measurement of geotechnical design parameters is observed in the geotechnical field. In this context, one of the in-situ tests namely Marchetti Flat Dilatometer (DMT) is chosen for this study. The DMT is a push-in type in-situ soil testing instrument which was developed by Prof. Marchetti in Italy on 1980. In this study, focus is given to predict the consistency of cohesive sub-soil, directly from DMT test. In this respect, twenty seven numbers of DMT tests were carried out at different project sites adjacent to conventional boreholes accompanied by standard penetration test (SPT). For this study, DMT parameters namely, dilatometer modulus (ED) and vertical drained constrained modulus (MDMT) along with the Standard Penetration Blow count (SPT N) from adjacent borehole were considered. This paper describes a comparative study of dilatometer modulus (ED) and vertical drained constrained modulus (MDMT) with the SPT N. Besides, an attempt has been made to establish correlation between ED with SPT N and MDMT with SPT N. Finally, based on this correlation a typical range of ED and MDMT has been predicted for different consistency of cohesive sub-soil formation known from SPT-based consistency.
