An Auditory midbrain implant (AMI) is an attempt to improve speech outcomes in individuals unsuitable for a CI by implanting a neural prosthetic device in the midbrain. Cochlear implants have revolutionized the management of deafness. In the subset of patients who do not benefit from Cochlear implants due to a lack of robust neural connection between the cochlea and the brain, Auditory brainstem implants have been used with variable outcomes. This chapter focuses on various aspects of AMI, a possible alternative to auditory brainstem implants.
