Early identification of hearing loss, timely diagnosis, and early access to sound stimuli play a crucial role in developing age-appropriate linguistic competence in children with congenital hearing loss. Assessing the efficacy of aural rehabilitation is key to a successful rehabilitation program. This chapter explores the assessment of outcomes in paediatric cochlear implant users, emphasizing the importance of early identification and intervention for children with hearing loss. The authors discuss the dynamic process of habilitation and rehabilitation, highlighting the need for a comprehensive and individualized approach to address the unique challenges faced by each child. The chapter provides a detailed overview of assessment tools and techniques, covering various domains such as listening, speech, language, pragmatics, cognition, voice, music perception, literacy skills, play, and quality of life. Tracking them at regular intervals across these domains is a must. The authors also discuss the challenges faced in outcome audits, including variability in performance due to factors such as age at implantation, duration of implant use, associated disorders, and linguistic and cultural considerations.
