Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster
摘要
On April 25, 1986, an experiment was conducted at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant to determine how long the turbine could continue generating electricity through inertia after the reactor’s nuclear fission was halted. However, the operators failed to follow safety protocols regarding the reactor’s automatic cooling system. As a result, at 1:23 a.m. the following day, the reactor overheated and exploded, releasing approximately 8 tons of radioactive material into the atmosphere. Radioactive emissions continued to leak from the damaged reactor for the next ten days.
