This study introduces a kirigami-inspired design and fabrication method for artificial reefs (ARs), focusing on improving structural complexity, variety and adaptability. Using the Research through Design (RtD) methodology, we explored the effects of various design parameters on AR expansion and form, revealing significant potential for diverse, ecologically beneficial designs. The investigation merges traditional kirigami with parametric design to create complex, three-dimensional metal structures for marine restoration. Our findings highlight a versatile design process, offering a broad spectrum of possibilities for future AR models that cater to specific ecological needs.

摘要

This study introduces a kirigami-inspired design and fabrication method for artificial reefs (ARs), focusing on improving structural complexity, variety and adaptability. Using the Research through Design (RtD) methodology, we explored the effects of various design parameters on AR expansion and form, revealing significant potential for diverse, ecologically beneficial designs. The investigation merges traditional kirigami with parametric design to create complex, three-dimensional metal structures for marine restoration. Our findings highlight a versatile design process, offering a broad spectrum of possibilities for future AR models that cater to specific ecological needs.
