Developing lightweight, flexible, and affordable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials is imperative due to the widespread usage of wireless communication and smart electrical devices. Two-dimensional (2D) materials have become an attractive option for next-generation EMI shielding systems due to their unique properties, including low cost, lightweight design, and mechanical flexibility. Due to its numerous benefits, including exceptional electrical conductivity, lower density, larger specific surface area, and ease of processing, graphene has become the primary focus of extensive research in the fields of chemistry and materials science. To further improve the EMI shielding response of materials, the researchers looked into other 2D materials, such as MXenes, nitrides, black phosphorus, layered double hydroxides, and transition metal dichalcogenides. The most promising 2D materials are MXene and graphene, with a wide range of applications, including sensors, supercapacitors, wearable technology, EMI shielding, and batteries. This chapter discusses variable applications of 2D materials in EMI shielding and future challenges.
