This chapter investigates the recent developments in analyzing and detecting emerging contaminants (ECs) in aquatic habitats. For the detection and evaluation of contaminants, this chapter focuses on the incorporation of evolved systemic techniques or situation-based measures to detect pollutants in aquatic environments. For the assessment of contaminants in aquatic environments, there is the use of techniques such as bioassays and biomarkers which provide useful information about the hazardous effects and possible risks caused by ECs. Simultaneously, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) techniques, inclusive of liquid chromatography integrated with HRMS (LC-HRMS), this technique delivers remarkable sensitivity and specificity for the assessment of contaminants which allows the detection of a wide range of micropollutants in aquatic environments and on the other hand it also detects derived products present in minute quantity. These advanced technologies markedly enhance the precision of EC evaluation, providing extensive information about their occurrence, dispersal, and environmental effects. The study emphasizes the crucial role of these advanced techniques in strengthening management programs while taking the view of risk evaluation, which also helps safeguard the aquatic environment and human health by forming effective management strategies. By the incorporation of evolved analytical measures with biological evaluative techniques, researchers can easily identify and reduce the risks of ECs while ensuring biosafety in reaction to these prevalent environmental threats.
