Effect of Thermal Exposure into the Mechanical Properties of Al6061 Alloy
摘要
Aluminium alloy 6061 grade is utilized in many different industries because of its strength, machinability, corrosion resistance, and weldability. It is utilized in automotive and aerospace industries for wheels, suspension components, engine mounts, and chassis constructions in airplanes and cars, respectively. Al-6061, which is composed of Mg, Fe, Si, Cu, and Mn, is most frequently employed for routine chores. The present work deals with the finding out the pre- and post-quenched effect on the tensile strength and microstructural changes of TIG welded AA 6061 plates. Optical microscopy was used for microstructural analysis. A significant enhancement in overall tensile properties was noted after adopting heat treatment and water quenching technique. Due to uniform distribution of alloying elements over the primary Al matrix after water quenching, the strength gets improved. In contrary, the heating and aging may cause alloy precipitation towards the grain boundary of primary Al.
