Metal working fluid is a basic need when we talk of machining. The likes of using synthetic lubricants in manufacturing industry are owed to the fact of them being cheap and having various favorable properties important from the machining point of view. These properties such as higher flash point, higher oxidative stability, better service life have overshadowed the disadvantages of using these lubricants for ages. The lubricants also available in powdered form pose immense threat to the environment and also the workers coming in direct contact with the fluids. This paper aims to study the use of bio friendly edible vegetable oils as lubricants in machining. The paper also depicts the use of nanoparticles in these vegetable oils and the change in results obtained by both of them with respect to the synthetic oils used as lubricants.

摘要
