A Comparative Analysis of Structural Stability in HSS and WC–Co-Based Drill Bits After Rock Drilling
摘要
In the present work, the drilling of hard rock, i.e., granite, was done by using twist drill bits. The drilling was performed on a drilling machine with drill tool dynamometer attached on the tool post. For different drilling operations, thrust was measured and based on those results, stresses induced on the tip of the bits were discussed. The present work is a simulation-based comparison among the rock drilling works by taking pure HSS, pure WC–Co, and a combination of HSS- and WC–Co-based tools. The simulation was done by using SOLIDWORKS software. A fine mesh was taken to analyze the stresses, elastic strain, and displacement. In this way, a critical comparison was done among the drill bits used in this work.
