India, a leading global sandstone producer, generates a significant amount of sandstone processing waste (SPW) while processing large sandstone blocks. The improper dumping of SPW poses environmental and health risks. Previous studies explored the use of SPW in various applications, but its potential as a fill material lacks comprehensive characterization. This research aims to characterize SPW for its suitability as a non-conventional fill material. Geotechnical and geoenvironmental tests were conducted, including grain size analysis, Atterberg limits, permeability, compaction characteristics, morphology, chemical composition, and pH analysis. The results indicate that SPW has properties comparable to conventional fill materials and can be used as a sustainable alternative in geotechnical applications.
