The bridge is located at the intersection of the Madhumati River on the Asian Highway route 1. The objective of this project is to improve connectivity between the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, and India. The construction of the bridge eliminated the missing link on the route. The required time for crossing the river was reduced to several minutes, whereas previously it took 2 to 3 h, including waiting time for the ferry. Additionally, the synergistic effect with other bridges constructed under different projects is expected to lead to economic development in the surrounding area, such as shortening the access time between Dhaka and Petrapole by approximately 5 h. This bridge has a total length of 690 m and consists of the Nielsen Lohse Bridge, which has a bridge length of 150 m and an effective width of 24.4 m. It also includes an east-west approach bridge with PC-I girders, measuring 270 m on both the east and west sides. (Fig. 1). In selecting the type of bridge, the government of Bangladesh requested a symbolic design. The chosen design took into account the beautiful scenery that the arch and cable structure offer, as well as the fact that this would be the first of its kind in South Asia. Also, the Nielsen Lohse Bridge and PC-I girder were considered an economical configuration, as it was necessary to secure navigation routes (requiring 100 m). The construction period is from August 2, 2018 to August 28, 2022 (1484 days).
