This study aims to investigate and analyze noise pollution level in Kanpur City, India. The data of noise pollution level were recorded for six months from environmental sensors for five residential locations, and from this data, various noise indices like equivalent noise level (Leq), L90, L50, L10, were computed. The impact of noise pollution was assessed by computing percentage of higher annoyance (%HA) and level of sleep disturbance (%HSD). The findings indicate that maximum noise level was found in residential zone of Kidwai Nagar for both day and night time period. Observed Leq at four sampling locations was found to exceed from the permissible limit for day and night time period.  35-56 % population of Kidwai Nagar and Sachan Guest House were observed to be highly annoyed. The observed noise level (> 75 dBA during day time period and > 60 dBA during night time period) and %HA at Kidwai Nagar indicate highly alarming situation and can be termed as black spot from noise pollution perspective. Findings showed that the residential areas of Kanpur city need immediate intervention from policy makers and authorities in the form of effective urban and transportation planning for noise mitigation.
