Possibility of Success for Start-Up Company Rapidus from the Perspective of Dynamic Capabilities Theory
摘要
The paper examines the success potential of Rapidus, a company founded in 2022, in the semiconductor foundry business, which requires huge investment and extremely high technological standards in a Japanese industry with a low proportion of start-up companies. The company aims to manufacture and receive orders for 2 nm chips in fiscal 2027, but as of this writing (beginning of 2025) it is unclear whether this will be successful or not. This paper analyzes the establishment process of the SU company Rapidus and its business strategy for mass production and market launch toward 2027, bearing in mind the main keywords of DC theory, such as “Sensing,” “Seizing,” “Transforming,” and “Entrepreneurial Management.” At the same time, it also presents a transition in the likelihood of success of Rapidus with both ChatGPT and Gemini AI. The paper examines the company’s chances of success from a “Dynamic Capability” (DC) perspective. Finally, in the conclusion of this paper, the validity and challenges of the traditional DC theory are raised.
