Robust and Adaptive Control

This chapter treats three types of control problems of FASs with uncertainties, namely, robust control, adaptive control, and robust adaptive control. Firstly, for a high-order FAS with nonlinear uncertainties, robust stabilizing and the robust tracking controllers are proposed. Secondly, adaptive stabilization and adaptive tracking controllers are proposed for a high-order FAS with an unknown parameter vector. Thirdly, a high-order FAS with both nonlinear uncertainties and an unknown parameter vector is considered, and a robust adaptive stabilizing controller and a robust adaptive tracking controller are designed. In all the above three situations, certain stability of the designed systems is ensured, and some special cases even render the global exponential stability. Finally, the simulation results of an illustrative example are carried out. It is shown that, for a FAS with nonlinear uncertainties and/or time-varying unknown parameters, a robust adaptive control law, which guarantees the global stability (boundedness) of the closed-loop system, exists under very mild conditions.
