The phenomenal growth trajectory of Neobanks as fintech companies has disrupted the financial services’ industry, offering value-added digital banking services using technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain. This has intensified the academic research focus on these entities. However, existing research on neobanks is fragmented and lacks a holistic perspective. Further, the extant literature on neobanks is silent on the dynamics of advancing research in this field. Hence, our bibliometric study aims to provide the current growth trajectory of neobanks by analysing publications, citation trends and counts, co-authorship clusters among countries, top-cited papers, and finally, research focus, delineating three dynamic growth phases of neobanking research: foundational innovation, operational focus, and societal integration.
