The pump manufacturing industry is one of the oldest and steadily expanding industries. The workers are involved in repetitive tasks and also are standing throughout entire operation, which causes musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) to the workers. Frequency of MSDs in the pump manufacturing industry is documented by a relatively small number of researches. In manufacturing industries, the common cause for MSDs is the poor work posture and improper workstation design. The objective of the study is to investigate and identify the risk factor related to MSDs in the pump manufacturing industry. Thirty workers form different sections like winding, assembly, material handling, painting, and machine operators were selected for the study. Data collected through a questionnaire include the job-related factor, personal details, demographic data, and Cornell Musculoskeletal Disorder Questionnaire (CMDQ). Employees’ working postures are evaluated using Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA). The result shows that industrial workers have postural problems. The pump assembly section had the high RULA score of 6.4 which indicates immediate change in work environment. It can be concluded that due to poor ergonomic work environment, the workers in this sector exposed to various occupational health and safety issues. MSDs of the worker in the pump manufacturing sector can be reduced by altering the work environment.
