Is ESG Weapon or Engine? Human Rights and Morality Perspective
摘要
With the increasing global attention to climate change, social equity, and good governance, businesses have begun to pay attention to ESG indicators. This shift has also brought some challenges, and even some countries or organizations may use ESG standards as tools to suppress competitors or achieve geopolitical goals. This not only undermines the fair competition market environment, but may also trigger international tensions. This article explores the background of the expansion of national security concepts by major economic actors from the perspective of human rights and moral weaponization. It proposes its own suggestions on how to ensure that ESG practices can truly promote global sustainable development rather than become new hegemonic tools, including strengthening international cooperation in developing ESG standards, transparency and accountability in ESG practice processes, North South cooperation in enhancing ESG capabilities, and the establishment of a representative international investigation group on ESG weaponization practices. In order to promote ESG to truly become the engine of global economic growth.
