Improving Fine Motor Skills Through Playing Plasticine in Early Childhood

The acquisition and mastery of fine motor skills are undeniably crucial in facilitating various aspects of daily life, particularly in the early stages of childhood development. Recognizing this significance, the focus of this research is to investigate the extent of improvement in fine motor skills following engagement in a specific activity—playing with plasticine. Conducted as an experimental research endeavor, the study involved a sample of 40 children. The participants were divided into two groups, with one group receiving the treatment of playing with plasticine. This treatment consisted of two hours of play per session, three times a week, over a span of two months. To measure the impact of playing with plasticine, various instruments were employed to gather data on fine motor skills. These instruments included tasks such as paper cutting precision, coloring patterned images, bolding letters, and the ability to craft objects using plasticine. The data collected from these activities were subsequently subjected to analysis using a t-test, with a predetermined significance level of 5%. The outcomes of the analysis revealed a statistically significant increase in fine motor skills among the group that engaged in playing with plasticine (P < 0.05). Consequently, the study concludes that playing with plasticine constitutes an effective method for improving fine motor skills in early childhood. This finding contributes valuable insights to the realm of early childhood education and developmental interventions, underscoring the potential benefits of incorporating play with plasticine into educational practices aimed at enhancing fine motor skills in young children.
