Differences in the Short Distance Running Start Technique on the Ability to Run 20 Meters for High School Students

There are still many upper-grade elementary school students who do basic running movements with less effective results. In the short-distance running material, elementary school students have been taught to start squatting and there are still many students who have difficulty with this technique. The aim of the study was to examine the differences in the results of the 20-m run reaction test for elementary school students using a standing start and a squat start. This research method uses a comparative study, a 20-m run reaction test, and a test kit to measure time records using a Seiko stopwatch. The validity of the results uses the standard running event time manually from the WAF. The research subjects were 50 SMA and SD students who were taken using a purposive sampling system in grades 5 and 6. Statistical analysis used the paired independent T-test with statistical significance set at P < 0.05. The significance of the results was 0.014 < 0.05. The test results found that high school students using a standing start was 4.33 s and a squat start was 4.65 s. On average, the standing start results are at a better level or easier for elementary school students to do with the results of the 20-m run test being 0.32 s faster than the squat start type. The next research plan is to implement running reaction activities with several kinds of movements that make it easier for students to have a better reaction rate.
