Validity and Reliability of the Measuring Instrument of Hand-Eye Coordination in Table Tennis Performance

Table tennis requires the eyes to pay attention to the ball’s position and hands to hit the ball. In other words, a-hand-eye coordination is an essential aspect of this sport. This study aimed to test the empirical validity and reliability of table tennis hand-eye coordination measuring instruments. This research used a quantitative method, with the study subjects comprising 51 table tennis athletes aged 10–12. Empirical validity instruments in this study were hand-eye coordination (standardized). The empirical data validity was measured using Product Moment and Cronbach alpha reliability. The results showed that the empirical validity at the distance of 1m was 0.648, at the distance of 1.5 m was 0.991, and at the distance of 2 m was 0.996. All validation results show a significance level of < 0.05, so it can be used because the instrument is valid. Meanwhile, the reliability showed that Cronbach’s alpha distance at 1 m was 0.824; at a distance of 1.5 m was 0.910, and at a distance of 2 m was 0.943. Because the value exceeds the significance value > 0.8 can be stated to have a good category. This study concluded that every distance of the hand-eye coordination measuring instrument could be used because it has good empirical validity and reliability. With valid and reliable results on the development of hand eye coordination instruments, it can be a way to carry out the initial talent identification stage in prospective athletes, especially in table tennis.
