The type of testing that will be used in the assessment of the thermal spray coatings is the focus of this paper. By attaining higher efficiency and having less adverse impacts on the environment, thermal spray technologies are promoting sustainable production. It was seen that the thermal spray technologies are reasonable strategies to achieve these objectives while maintaining the effective and affordable operation. This is especially the case given the fact that many organizations are feeling the heat to abide by stringent environmental standards. Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) are new generation composite materials which possess a progressive transformation of their composition and structure from one region of the material volume to another and which cause corresponding changes in the properties of the material. It is possible for FGMs to provide ideals of improvement to the longevity and efficacy responses together with improved parsimony of the materials to be used. Finally, this review gives a snapshot of the recent development in Functionally Graded Materials and thermal spraying technologies.
