Analysis of Temperature Variation During Fabrication of Al 6061-Based Composites Alloy via Friction Stir Process with Different Tool Shoulder Diameters
摘要
Aluminum and its alloys are used in various sectors, including aeronautical engineering, structural engineering, etc., owing to their high specific strength, superior formability, and excellent corrosion resistance. In this study, a friction stir technique is used to develop an engineering-grade Al 6061-based composite. The process zone, tool shoulder, tool body, and fixture thermal behavior during composite fabrication were evaluated. Peak temperatures measured at the process region were 280 °C, at the tool shoulder 260 °C, at the tool body at 209 °C, and at the fixture 164 °C at various tool shoulder diameters, with more dependency on the tool shoulder diameter.
