This article presents the idea of a child-safe SOS alert wristband capable of increasing the safety of children via the automatic forwarding of SOS distress messages during emergency events. Our developed wristband will allow the silent transmission of an SOS to contact trusted contacts via the actuation of a button; however, the usability and durability, particularly the reliable connectivity of child-safe devices, remain problematic for these types of technologies. The wristband is incorporated with live GPS location tracking to help the parents to intervene fast and effectively. Also, the geofencing feature has been included in it which sends an alert to parents via SMS in case the child moves out of a specified boundary or radius. In this way, parents are able to take timely action and there is added safety in it. The main challenges that this project addresses include designing a form factor that is lightweight and ergonomic enough to be worn all day, creating an intuitive interface that children as young as five years old can operate, and achieving power efficiency to maximize battery life with very low-power modes. The compact design of the wristband integrates critical components, such as a tactile push button, GPS and GSM modules, geofencing mechanism, and rechargeable battery. This comprehensive solution will provide a reliable, effective, and user-friendly tool for improving child safety and giving peace of mind to busy parents and guardians.
