SARS, which is severe acute respiratory syndrome and affects the lower respiratory tract epithelial cells, is caused by a single-stranded RNA virus of the coronaviridae family. It not only affects the lungs but also impacts the brain neurons, mucosal cells of the intestines, tubular epithelial cells of the kidneys, and brain neurons. It was first reported in 2002 and spread as SARS in 2003. One of the new virus of this family which originated again from Wuhan, China, as per reports from the wild animals, in December 2019 named SARs-CoV is a virus which has an envelope of single-stranded RNA, and this was responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. SARS was first identified in China in late 2002, and then spread into the rest of the world in the spring and summer of 2003, resulting in the first pandemic of the twenty-first century. Dec, 2019, news of over 43 deaths among poultry workers in areas adjoining Huanan sea food market in Wuhan!. Emergency meeting convened on New year day to understand the disease. WHO alert on 43 cases!! A matter of concern for public health!! Alarm bells started anticipating something serious, something big with only information on transmission being the respiratory mode, from human – bird/sea food interface.
