The Indian Navy (IN) is an instrument of the maritime power of India which is responsible to safeguard India’s Maritime interests across the spectrum of conflict. The Indian Navy deploys its assets to ensure stability, safety and security at seas through regular patrolling of the area and by having augmentation of the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) through persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). At present, the IN is utilising the fixed and rotary winged air assets for undertaking these missions which are cost-intensive. Cost-effectiveness analysis of LTAVs vis-a-vis other air assets currently being used by the IN was performed. The missions where LTAVs could be employed were culled out from the Indian Maritime Security Strategy 2015. The cost-effectiveness analysis proved that the LTAVs would be a cost-effective option compared to the Dornier 228 and Dhruv Helicopter.
