Impact of SPWM and SVPWM Techniques on Current Harmonics in FOC-Based PMSM Speed Control
摘要
As the demand for electric vehicles is on rise, there is essential need to improve the performance of electric vehicles. There are many avenues which could potentially enhance performance, such as highly efficient power converters, advanced control systems, and highly efficient traction motors like permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). PMSMs are widely used in electric vehicles due to their high efficiency, small size, and ability to generate high torque at low speeds. Choosing the right motor control method is important. This paper demonstrates that using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) offers several advantages, such as lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) as compared to the Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM). This in turn reduces the iron loss in the motor, which leads to reduced energy consumption and increased range of electric vehicles. Thus, SVPWM is considered a more effective technique for enhancing the performance and efficiency of the electric vehicle propulsion systems.
