Yoga for Cognition Enhancement and Emotion Regulation of Students
摘要
Students often experience stress that impairs cognitive function and emotional regulation. Yoga has been explored as a potential intervention to enhance these abilities by promoting self-awareness and reducing stress levels. A narrative literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from PubMed and Google Scholar examined the effects of various yoga interventions, including Hatha yoga (postures and breath control), Trataka (focused visual meditation), mantra-based techniques such as Transcendental Meditation (TM), Mind Sound Resonance Technique (MSRT), and Loving-kindness Meditation. Findings suggest that yoga enhances stress management, cognitive function, and emotional regulation, bridging ancient yogic principles (Chitta-Vritti Nirodha) with modern neuroscience by modulating brain regions (e.g., prefrontal cortex, amygdala) and autonomic nervous system activity. These effects align with neuroplasticity and biopsychosocial models, demonstrating yoga’s holistic impact on biological (e.g., cortisol reduction), psychological, and social well-being. However, further large-scale studies are needed to confirm these effects and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
