The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the security and military sectors is a strategic priority for Arab Gulf Arab, many of which are classified as small and medium-sized states. While these oil-rich nations have the financial capacity to obtain large quantities of weapons, the nature of modern security threats has made AI a key factor in determining the quality and effectiveness of these weapons. This presents a challenge for Gulf States, as their primary security dilemma lies in the regional power imbalance. Achieving strategic balance cannot be accomplished through conventional military armament alone. By leveraging AI technologies, Gulf States can enhance their ability to address evolving security threats and improve the efficiency of their relatively small armed forces. Given their sizable financial resources, these countries have already begun acquiring and deploying AI-driven technologies in both security and defense domains. However, key questions remain: How far have these efforts progressed? What are the requirements for localizing these technologies? Beyond financial resources, successful implementation requires highly skilled human capital and the ability to access these advanced technologies from leading global companies.
