Understanding Poems Written Through Barbed-Wire Fences
摘要
What can I tell you of the origins of my poems? Or of my outlook when writing them? Fearing arbitrary arrest and a bleak future, I smuggled myself across the border fence to Bangladesh 7 days before my 16th birthday. I did not know how long or far this journey would take me from my homeland, Arakan. Previously, the longest time I’d been away from home was 9 days (culturally, we normally stay with our parents). I could not bring many provisions for this journey beyond what I carried in my mind.
