Reimagining Connection in Chronic Illness: Towards Inclusive Approaches to Loneliness
摘要
In Chapter Ten, we conclude by synthesising the key arguments made throughout the book. We begin with participants’ reflections on the research, illustrating the importance of giving voice to people’s experiences in understanding loneliness and chronic illness. Drawing on themes explored across previous chapters, we then argue for an imperative to develop community strategies that address loneliness as both a personal experience and collective challenge. This requires taking a relational approach to loneliness–one that attends to the social and temporal dimensions of chronic illness alongside broader systemic forces that drive loneliness among those with chronic conditions. We conclude by outlining requirements for meaningful change that move away from prescriptive solutions towards diverse, socially-situated approaches grounded in lived experience.
