Driving Sustainable Circularity with Reverse Logistics in Halal Sectors to Degrade Ecological Footprints: Evidence in ASEAN-5
摘要
This chapter discusses issues related to the circular economy and reverse logistics in the Halal sectors to reduce ecological footprints by taking the case study in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-5, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand. All five are among the leaders in global Halal sectors. As a reputable community that engines the international Halal industry, implementing circular economy and reverse logistics in Halal sectors of ASEAN-5 can influence the Halal sectors worldwide, at least in Asia, and other sectors to execute sustainable circularity with reverse logistics to degrade the ecological footprint. Thus, through literature study and netnography, this chapter will explain: (1) Facts and figures of the ecological footprints in ASEAN-5; (2) Facts and figures of the ASEAN-5’s Halal sectors; (3) The implementation of the sustainable circularity with reverse logistics in the ASEAN-5’s Halal sectors. The findings of this chapter are several implementations in the ASEAN-5 Halal sectors that have begun to be oriented toward sustainable circularity, although most have not yet implemented reverse logistics. Overall, this chapter provides a valuable overview of the implementation of circular economy and/or reverse logistics in the Halal sector in the ASEAN-5 and how these countries have the opportunity to make the Halal industry contribute to reducing the ecological footprints through sustainable circularity with reverse logistics.
