This chapter offers an in-depth overview of the origin, distribution, genetic diversity, gene flow assessment, genetic resources, conservation strategies, crop hybridization, molecular markers, and mass-assisted breeding. Efforts in germplasm conservation, facilitated by gene banks worldwide, ensure the preservation and accessibility of diverse genetic resources for research and breeding purposes. These collections, comprising thousands of accessions from numerous countries, provide a valuable reservoir of traits for enhancing common bean cultivars adaptability and resilience to evolving challenges like climate change and pests.
