Comparative Study of Cyclic and High Strain Dynamic Pile Load Test

Pile load testing is one of the aspects of any pile foundation because piles play a major role in transferring the load to strata beneath the surface. There are two major test approaches to estimate the vertical capacity of the pile with bifurcation of skin friction (SF) and end bearing (EB) load-carrying capacities, called the cyclic pile load test (CPLT) and the dynamic pile load test (HSDLT). The cyclic pile load test is still considered a first priority for capacity assessment, but it is a time-consuming and large-space-needed test. The cyclic pile load test is also a type of static pile load test that is basically used to bifurcate the load-carrying capacity due to skin friction and end bearing of the pile. This paper basically deals with a comparative study of a static pile load test and a high strain dynamic pile load test of driven square piles of size 500 mm on different aspects such as load settlement curve, load carrying capacity by skin friction and end bearing, net settlement, etc.
