Historically, significant earthquakes in India have resulted in substantial loss of life and property. The Indo-Gangetic Plain is considered a seismically active region in India that extends across the states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. The soil sample for this study was collected from an unoccupied and undeveloped land in Gaughat area near Old Naini Bridge of Prayagraj District in Uttar Pradesh. The soil sample collected for the study was classified as Low Compressible Clay (CL) as per Unified System for Classification of Soil. Cyclic triaxial test was performed on soil specimen to determine its dynamic properties. The soil samples were prepared maintaining L/D ratio of 2 by fixing the height of sample as 76 mm and 38 mm diameter. Firstly, the tests were performed on the virgin soil and then soil samples improved with polyacrylamide and Terrazyme were tested for various dosages of these additives. It was observed that the soil structure was improved due to these additives and the dynamic response of improved soil specimens yielded better results than virgin soil. The suggested improvement method can thus be adopted in the construction practices taken up in the moderate to very high-risk areas susceptible to earthquake and also in circumstances where soil will probably be subjected to dynamic loading conditions.
