Unveiling Geotechnical Risks: Insights from Literature
摘要
The paper aims to assess research activity on geotechnical risk management, as it is a prevalent issue in the current scenario for infrastructure projects. The rapid evolution of research papers in the last few years has resulted in the need to conduct a detailed analysis of the literature in this field, though the papers have not been published on geotechnical risk management with bibliometric analysis. The motive for this study stems from past incidents of landslides or bridge collapses in infrastructure projects. Scopus database is considered the literature database with 322 publications from 2014 to 2024. With the use of VOS viewer, this bibliometric analysis was carried out. Geotechnical risks arise from uncertainties underlying soil, rock behavior, groundwater conditions, seismic activity, and other geographical factors. Besides, the risks vary with location and the type of soil. Coastal regions may experience increased soil erosion and foundation instability from saltwater exposure and the inland regions might face seismic activity and soil composition challenges impacting tunnel-building efforts. Furthermore, as the project’s complexity increases, the necessity for systematic analysis and mitigation of geotechnical risks also arises. Therefore, it is necessary to identify these risks in advance and conduct a thorough assessment to minimize their negative impacts. Moreover, the study explores technological advancements such as integrating data-driven models, the Internet of Things, and geographic information systems in risk mitigation. Additionally, this paper discusses geotechnical instruments such as piezometers, tilt meters, borehole hole extensometers, strain gauges, and settlement plates to measure and monitor the behavior of the soil. In the present study, an attempt is made to find the development in research in geotechnical risk management along with top contributing authors, journals and affiliations, emerging themes, keyword networks, and technological advancements. It is valuable in determining the novelty of the research conducted further. These findings can guide future researchers to set a baseline before taking up geotechnical risk management research.
